Abstract
Ideological concepts and principles of protection and restoration of antiques guide operators in deciding to what degree the bronzes should be restored. Due to cultural differences, there are different views of these principles in the east and the west countries. There differences are discussed. The idea of antique doctors is introduced. The following principles are suggested: absolute standards do not exist; each case should be treated individually; basic rules should be used flexibly; aesthetics is not the final standard of judgment. The importance of preserving accurate and complete historical information of the antiques for the future generations is emphasized. This is our responsibility.
