This paper deals with the work of Newton while he was employed at the Royal Mint and with his interest in metallurgy. His reorganization of the mint is mentioned and details of the ceremony of testingthe fineness of the alloys are given. Some analyses are given of seventeenth century gold trial plates. -- AATA
