Abstract
Museum archives are the only source of information for some of the Ohio Hopewell sites and a major source for others, containing records for future research and specimens for reanalysis as new technical advances occur. Site research (soil analysis), archival research, and core and bladelet specimens were used in this study. Earlier research on Illinois sites is reviewed. The remains examined reflect a consistent pattern of cultural and technological constraints and choices that defined the actual manufacturing process. The variables used to describe the morphology are enumerated, and the mathematical analyses of the specimens are presented. The differences in the manufacturing techniques between Ohio and Illinois industries are discussed. See 19-769. -- AATA
