Experiments have been undertaken on samples of seaweed and wood ash in order to assess the potential success of provenance studies in ancient glass. A high degree of variability in the compositions of samples of a single ash type was observed and the possibility of definite typing, on the basis of ash composition, is questioned. -- AATA
