Abstract
The report discusses the use of ethylene oxide as a museum fumigant in some detail: its history, effectiveness, hazard and regulation. The use, limitations and hazards of methyl bromide, sulfuryl fluoride, naphthalene, dimethyldichlorovinylphosphate, paradichlorobenzene, and carbon dioxide receive briefer review. Measures for preventing infestation are mentioned. Inserted sections quote sources on legal liability and adverse effects of fumigants on specimens. Another insert concerns emergency response to fumigant exposure. -- AATA
