Abstract
A short summary of the excavation of bronze objects of various alloys is given. Some of them date back 5,900 B.P. An outline of the manufacture of bronze objects in Chinese history is given highlighting various improvements and developments in technique. An explanation of the patinas found on excavated bronzes is presented and the conditions that cause them. The importance of treatment after excavation is underlined by the types of damage that can occur if unchecked. Proper management of cultural resources such as bronzes in museums is outlined including proper storage facilities; environment and a dehumidifier which operates to keep the storage temperature between 8 and 20°C and the RH between 50 to 60%. The damaging effects of dust and pollution are discussed. The use of a vacuum cleaner is recommended for the removal of dust. Details on registration and record keeping are given and how objects are sorted and stored. Objects are described and identified by use and period. -- AATA
