Thin-section examination of a reddish-brown ceramic fabric common in the prehistoric levels at Ayia Irini suggests that it is a local material. In contrast, sherds assigned to other islands or the mainland on stylistic grounds have fabrics which, in thin-section, appear to bear out such assignments. -- AATA
