Abstract
Describes a systematic approach to the evaluation of systems for the separation and identification of natural red dyes extracted from old textile fibers by thin layer chromatography. Some 14 solvent systems were selected for these studies. Samples of dyed textiles were prepared from five natural red dyes. The solvent system, benzene-ethyl formate-formic acid 74+24+1, was found suitable for identification of natural red dyes in old textiles.
