Abstract
The special environmental requirements of museum collections of textile quilts are explained and quilt cleaning storage and display discussed. Neither wet nor solvent cleaning methods are totally acceptable therefore vacuum cleaning is generally the only possibility. A method for this is described. Cleaning is recommended about every six months. Correct storage is essential and ways to minimise damage caused by folding are suggested. The preparation of polyester batting-stuffed sausages for placing in the folds is illustrated. During display, which should be for short periods only, non-stitched supports are nowadays preferred. Photographs, materials and suppliers.
