Abstract
After a brief introduction pointing out deterioration at the molecular level, the report discusses the effects of light and practical ways to measure and control it. A separate section describes monitoring light damage with ISO blue wool standard cards and FD&C Red No. 3. Temperature and relative humidity receive similar consideration, as do dust and pollutants. Deterioration caused by contact with materials used in mounting, exhibiting and storing specimens is noted with advice on selecting safer alternatives and monitoring for such pollutants. The report also provides succinct advice on pest control and safe specimen handling. -- AATA
