The reactivity of alkylgold compounds towards thermal decomposition, reactions with olefins and acetylenes, oxidation and reduction, and reactions involving cleavage of gold-carbon bonds can be rationalized once the mechanisms of the reactions are known. Synthesis of new compounds and some catalytic reactions involving organogold species have been developed as a result.
