Abstract
Four glasses in the series 15Na<sub>2</sub>O, xCaO, (85 x)SiO<sub>2</sub> were leached in water at 60°C and also exposed to 80% humidity at 60°C for the same times. The sodium in the leach solutions was greater than that found by rinsing the weathered specimens, suggesting differences in the mechanisms of reaction. Visible surface damage on the weathered specimens did not correlate with the extent of reaction, being greater on the glasses of higher CaO content which produced less sodium in their rinsings. -- AATA
