Abstract
Samples of a calcareous illitic clay from Jockgrim/Pfalz have been fired under oxidizing and reducing conditions between 800°C and 1050°C. Pore distribution curves and scanning electron microscopic investigations reveal different textures due to different oxygen fugacities which were controlled by solid oxygen buffers. Measurements of magnetic susceptibilities were correlated with crystalline phases formed in the quaternary system FeO-Fe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>-A1<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>SiO<sub>2</sub>. -- AATA
