Abstract
The joint decision-making process for treating the more than fifty bronze sculptures on Parliament Hill in Ottawa is described. These statues exhibit black discoloration, streaking and corrosion due to environmental pollutants and detrimental human interaction. Four conservators did the initial condition reports. These were discussed with the Curatorial Committee, a conservation advisory committee set up by Public Works Canada. Professional Canadian conservators were asked to submit condition reports, treatment proposals and budgets for conserving each statue. A few sculptures will be treated each year as the contracts are awarded. Corrosion samples were collected and will be analyzed at the Canadian Conservation Institute.
