Abstract
The Thailand Archaeometallurgy Project, conducted in 1984 and 1985, produced evidence of copper/bronze production on the Khorat Plateau in Northeast Thailand from ca. 2000 BC into the late 1st millenium BC. The region is, however, virtually devoid of deposits of copper or tin, and the province of Loei off the northwest edge of the Plateau was investigated as a source area. Two relevant major complexes were indentified in 1984, and one, a copper mining site at Phu Lon, excavated in 1985. The excavations demonstrate prehistoric mining and mineral preparation at the site. Work foreseen for the 1986 season is adumbrated. -- AATA
