Abstract
A history of the forts of Arica, dating from colonial and early republican time periods, is traced, documented by written records and salvaged archaeological excavations, which were done while cleaning and preserving Alacran Isle for tourism. Conclusions are drawn that the present-day ruins of the Alacran fort correspond to an unfinished structure of the 19th century. -- AATA
