Abstract
Fabric samples and fabric pseudomorphs (produced when the textile is buried in contact with metal in a moist soil environment) from two north american oboriginal sites, tunacunnhee and etowah (both in georgia, usa), are described, together with some of the other items found. 3 3 copper objects with pseudomorphs from tunacunnhee and 3 etowah fabric fragments with partial mineralisation were studied, using sem, eds, differential interference constrast microscopy and fibre optic inspection systems. As so little is known about the formation of pseudo-morphs, definite conclusions cannot be drawn about the fibres found, but thay appear to be bast fibres with feathers. Yarn structure information from both sites is tabulated. The exact relationship of feathers to yarn is not understood, nor the excat extent to which pseudomorphs reproduce the original fibres in size or trace element composition. -- ICCROM
