Decay of wood is considerably affected by climatic conditions, hence the relative needs in different climates of protective measures for wood may vary considerably. To estimate these needs a quantitative measure of the relative potential of a climate to promote decay of above-ground wood structures exposed to the weather was developed. -- AATA
