Abstract
Discussion session dealing with excavation and conservation methods at Ozette Archaeological Site on the west coast of the State of Washington held at the excavation site is reported. Included are questions on dangers to unexcavated artifacts; covering of wood artifacts after exposure; hydraulic excavation; philosophy of horizontal control of the excavation; various levels of conservation ranging from on-site first aid to laboratory work; use of a water gelling material such as carboxymethylcellulose or hydroxyethylcellulose to protect artifacts exposed for photography; logistics problems of a remote archaeological site; stereo photography; photo towers; publicity; research into weathering problems; effect of sea water on artifacts; bacterial; biocides; iron content of artifacts.
