ICOM committee for conservation: 8th triennial meeting
Abstract
One should ask the question, what is painting? The continued existence of paintings demands that we reflect on what causes an artist to paint, and in what way prevalent aesthetic values influence the practice of conservation. The valuation of art works happens through the interaction of economic factors. Art that is meant to be ephemeral contradicts the need for conservators. -- AATA
