Abstract
The author devised a spectrophotometer through which one can obtain spectral reflectance curves of colored materials without touching them. The dyes used in ancient textiles are identified by comparing their spectral reflectance curves with those of textiles dyed with known natural dyes, and by calculating the degree of similarity from both coefficients of variation and correlation between the sample and the known natural dyes. Results obtained from this method are shown and the ancient dyeing technique is also discussed. -- AATA
