This document has been prepared to assist those faced with the salvage of library and archival materials damaged by floods, fire fighting, broken water pipes, or other causes. These brief instructions should be augmented by the expert knowledge of a qualified conservator experienced in handling such materials on the site. It is strongly recommended that such advice be sought at the earliest possible moment after the disaster, preferably before rescue work begins. Appendix II lists the individuals and institutions known to have had actual experience in dealing with these problems.
