Abstract
Report of treatment of a life-sized alabaster figure carved by Hendryk de Keyser in 1613 for the Cathedral of S. John in s'Hertogenbosch, Holland. Removal of the piece from permanent exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, by employing a sling to lower the sculpture onto a pallet is discussed. Analysis and testing of several possible cleaning solutions are reviewed. Treatment techniques included cleaning with white spirit emulsion, rinsing with white spirit, replacing rusted clamps, and fabrication of fills.
