Abstract
Sound craftsmanship, as revealed in Leighton's own description of his techniques, is held responsible for the excellent state of preservation of a 90-year-old painting: the work was looselined by the artist with primed canvas, and the open back of the stretcher was covered with a third primed canvas. Nap-bond lining with Beva 371 to polyester monofilament screen (PeCap 7-60 HD) is judged to be sufficient structural treatment at this time. -- AATA
