Abstract
A project to construct a traditional canoe on Kabara Island is described. Twenty species of indigenous plants were used, with <i>Intsia bijuga</i> for the main hull, masthead, maststem and steering oar. Wood was chosen skillfully by the native carpenters with regard to material constraints.
