Abstract
In archaeological objects made of iron, akaganéite (beta-FeOOH) is mainly responsible for the deterioration. The entire removal of remaining chlorides is extremely difficult. The author gives a brief survey of the reasons for the difficulties. Also, efficiency of inhibitors is treated in water and oily systems, respectively. Special difficulties in antirust treatment of iron-organic matter composite objects is raised.
