A heat loss type of anemometer using a pair of bare transistor chips is described. Response time is a few milliseconds and useful range is 0 to at least 15 m s-1. Polar response varies +/- 10%, necessitating individual calibration at a specific orientation. The instrument is battery operated with a total power consumption of 60 mW. Reproducibility of reading is within +/- 1% of wind speed 3 to 15m s-1.
