A general account of examination, disassembly, and restoration of a Kamakura period wooden sculpture of a standing figure, known as the Kagekiyo Jizo. X-radiography revealed a nude male figure inside, carved in 1238-39, as well as a number of small wooden figures, coins, documents, and other fragmentary artifacts. Photographs and schematic drawings illustrate the structure of the male figure which later in the 13th century was fitted with garments carved in wood-the arms and feet having been removed. The nude and the robed figure have now been restored separately. -- AATA
