Abstract
Conservation and restoration report on a series of simple, everyday wooden vessels used in the middle ages. Dry conditions led to a severe shrinkage of the pieces. Pine wood in good condition was easily impregnated with a low-concentration solution of low-molecular polyethylene glycol. After the experiment, peg 200 in a concentration of 25-30% gave the best results. Freeze-drying is important before treatment to lower the possibility of deformation. Finally the pieces are conditioned to 50-60% for the museum of Lubeck (Germany).
