Study of furniture and furniture makers of two towns in northwest Connecticut during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Analyzes the furniture forms used in each town, based on a sample of probate inventories, in the context of social history. Distinguishes details of construction and ornament in the furniture produced in each town. Discusses the work of the Booth family, and argues that Ebenezer IV (17431790) was the most important furniture maker in Newtown in the last half of the 18th century while Elijah Booth (1745-1823) is properly regarded as a woodworker of the middle ranks. -- AATA
