Abstract
The possibility of using argon as a safe, non-toxic pest control method for books is described. The method would be cheap and convenient since argon gas is cheap (c. 20 dollars a cylinder) and as airtight containers, plastic bags, dustbins, etc.could be employed. The present period of treatment is suggested as 2 weeks, but further work may allow it to be shortened. The possibility of treatment being effective for moulds and bacteria is being investigated.
