Abstract
Recent experiments using sodium borohydride to obtain image enhancement in faded photographs are discussed and illustrated with characteristic examples of the varying results. Salted paper prints and test strips were fabricated and used for comparison and further experimentation. Material subjected to artificial aging is evaluated for indications of the rate of future deterioration. Silver compounds formed in association with the enhancement process are examined using x-ray diffraction analysis. Possible future directions for experimentation are postulated.
