Among the various kinds of damage to wooden sculptures are: 1) damage to the surface finish; 2) damage to basic materials; 3) damage in joints of the parts; and 4) severe lacunae or missing parts and ugly restored parts. An example of the damage and restoration of a wooden eleven-headed kannon (Jousei-ji buddhist temple, Saitama prefecture) were shown and discussed. -- AATA
