Fixing and reattaching was done for a mural painting on a wooden wall (apr. 5 x 6m) inside the main hall of the Hasedera Temple, Sakurai city, Nara Prefecture. The paint film was severely detached, fragile but not extremely cupped. The treatment was begun by spraying water and then a Japanese paper was applied with a damp brush to protect the paint film. A 15-20% solution of Paraloid B 72 in p-xylene was injected underneath the paint film and pressed down by a paper pad dampened with a mixture of acetone and diacetone alcohol. The paper was removed by brushing with the mixture. In order to observe distribution of damages on the wall painting, the authors took 100 photos and synthesized them to be a picture. -- AATA
