Abstract
This report covers the research performed in the Activation Analysis Research Laboratory during the period January 1, 1965, to September 1, 1966, under contract AT-(40-1)-2671 with Division of Isotopes Development, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. Also included are summaries of other phases of the overall research program carried out by the Laboratory. The use of automated activation analysis system for the measurement of pesticide residues in plant materials, and destructive as well as non-destructive activation analyses of biomedical samples are reported. In addition, two dimensional activation analysis of commercially pure aluminum foil and the investigation of the potentialities of charged particle activation analysis are described. Additional basic and applied research projects include the development of instrumental methods to reduce matrix interference in the analysis of trace elements, measurement of sensitivities for 14 Mev neutron activation analysis, neutron activities techniques for lunar surface analysis, 14 Mev neutron cross section measurements, use of atomic absorption as an alternative analytical tool and the recoil studies of the fission products from <sup>2</sup>38</sup induced by 14 Mev neutrons. Further, the report includes two computer programs developed during this period - one for the determination of the peak areas of gamma ray peaks and the other for stripping of a complex gamma ray spectrum into its components.
