The National Trust's Textile Workshop at Knole, Kent, has treated a late 17th century textile for the King's Bed. Special problems were encountered, including the heavy weight of metallic threads splitting the old silk fabric. Eighty volunteers worked on the project which included washing, treating with an anti-tarnish liquid, and sewing dislodged threads back into place. Grants from the Historic Buildings project were used. The present textile conservation centers in England are discussed as is the need for a programmatic approach to textile conservation. -- AATA
