Results are reported of field and laboratory tests on the natural resistance to decay and the preservation of heartwood and sapwood from Liquidambar formosana, Machilus zuihoensis and Ficus rigida. All the preservatives tested increased decay resistance over that of controls: phenolic resin (Forest Chemistry Division of T.F.R. I.) gave the best protection and bucol (copper soap solution/butyl alcohol/(phenol) China Petroleum Corp.) the least. -- AATA
