Data on properties of wood are presented primarily in a tabular format. Over 500 photomicrographs of wood species are illustrated to aid identification; photographs include crosssections, tangential section, and radial sections with enlargements of ten to 150 magnification. In the first section on wood and its properties, the anatomical structure of hard and softwoods is presented. Shrinkage, and moisture-shrinkage relationships are described. Thermal properties are also included. Lignin-based chemicals are discussed. Also included is a chapter on the effect of chemicals on wood properties.
