Abstract
A blue-green corrosion product on certain Egyptian bronzes of the Saite-Ptolemaic to Coptic periods has been shown to have the composition Naub>2Cu(COub>2)ub>3. 3Hub>2O, and has been named chalconatronite. Tables show chemical analysis and X-ray powder spacing data. The formation of chalconatronite seems to have been due to the characteristicabundance of natron and trona (hydrated sodium carbonates) in the arid soils of certain parts of Egypt.
