Abstract
Fifty-six corroded lead objects from the Agora at Athens were examined. The principle corrosion product was lead carbonate, but in patches next to the metal were found lead dioxide and monoxide. Treatment was by 1 in 10 aqueous hydrochloric acid, followed by hot distilled water then 10% ammonium acetate, and finally a thorough washing in distilled water.
