The tapestry (assigned on stylistic grounds to the Hellenistic Near East of the Late Roman period) consists of 29 fragments said to have been found in Egypt. The cleaning with neutral detergent, and the lubrication of the dry fibres with glycerine, is described, together with the method of mounting the fragments. A preliminary technical examination disclosed the method of spinning and the dyes used.
