Abstract
In order to test the common belief that wood gradually loses its capacity to absorb and desorb moisture twelve samples of various species, and ranging in age from one to 3,700 years were taken through a humidity cycle with ample time for response. The experiment proved that dimensional stability is not an attribute of old wood any more than recent wood.
