Abstract
The gold content of Anglo-Saxon coinage can be used as a guide to its date, and it is suggested by the authors that jewelry might also be dated on this basis. Since much of the gold content information on coins is based on speciflc gravity measurements, a study was made on a set of coins comparing the data from x-ray fluorescence analysis and speciflc gravity and is given in an appendix. The results are given for analysis of 30 pieces of jewelry by x-ray fluorescence.
