A series of articles on disaster mitigation includes the following five articles: 1) a report on Learning from Disasters in the developing world at the end of the first year of the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction; 2) an article on the mission organized by UNDRO to Manjil, Iran, The Iran Earthquake, reports the June 1990 earthquake and recommendations 3) Earthquakes and Traditional Asian Buildings, suggests that simple measures are needed to improve earthquake resistance especially in school buildings; 4) describes a program started in January 1989 in the provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien, Vietnam, to improve typhoon resistance and 5) a report on flood adaptive housing in Bangladesh.
