Abstract
Considers the cold lining method, developed by V.R. Mehra, as a revolution in the field of paintings conservation. Criticism toward new methods and materials is welcomed and tests should be rigorous. The method is logical and sound. The author has made only slight adaptations. Wax resin lining and cold lining are compared. The former has impregnation as a main characteristic and the latter avoids visible darkening on the reverse side of the painting. Two variations of the cold lining method are presented and illustrated in detail, the original method using three stretchers, and the lining of the edges (strip lining) using reactivated Plextol B500 adhesive.
