Abstract
The behaviour of the natural resins (amber, colophony, copal, dammar, elemi, mastic, sandarac, shellac and venice turpentine) on artificial ageing was studied by means of TLC, GC- MS, HPLC and by colour measurement. The resins were aged artificially according to ISO-105 B 02 in eight steps up to 768 hours in a Xenotest 150 S. The analytical conditions were described and the analytical results for colophony were presented in tables and chromatograms. Two of the initial resin components survived the ageing process and were detected by each of the three chromatographic techniques. The yellowing of the resins follows different patterns and is greatest for colophony. -- SCMRE
