Abstract
Differences between assessing written and practical work are examined. Problems associated with assessment of practical work are discussed. A scheme for subdividing practical into a range of performance factors and recording marks on a proforma mark sheet is suggested. Advantages include time saving, accountable records, uniform assessment for each student and clarity of iterpretation of both staff and students.
