Abstract
A study was made to investigate the function of the document storage box as a protection against air pollution. The study involved acid-free and buffered boxes, and three types of paper, exposed to various levels of air pollutant gasses in an exposure chamber. Measurements of the changes in the materials are given and results show that storage in boxes slows down degradation from air pollution by up to a factor of six, with both quality of cardboard and box playing a part.
