Abstract
Glazed bricks, glazed pottery and unglazed ware from the excavations which took place at Kish and at Nineveh (1923-33) have been analyzed. Both the bodies and the glazes have been studied using x-ray fluorescence and emission spectrometry. All the glazes studied from these sites were of the alkaline type. Five examples of Islamic pottery from the site at Hira were analyzed and these were found to be lead glazes with a concentration of about 32% PbO. The authors concluded that there is comparatively little compositional variation in the glaze composition of the pre-Islamic pottery throughout the 1200 years represented and that there is a constancy as well in the body composition. Four tables of analytical data are included.
