Abstract
17 fibulae from the Gothic period in Italy were analyzed. It was found that silver alloys with high amounts of copper and zinc were used. Silver varies between 18 and 88, copper between 8 and 67, and zinc between 1 and 15 percent. Obviously the fibulae were cast from silver, copper and brass coins which the silversmith received from his customers. -- AATA
